The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is a stunning hike that leads trekkers up steep volcanic terrain, into and out of a series of craters, past sparkling blue and emerald lakes, and back down the opposite side of the volcano.  One of the best-known day hikes in the world, it is a truly amazing hike.
